Report for Volume Moulding Project

          

         

1. This was the first volume I made.I had some difficulty of making the left shoulder.I used one cardboard and made some cuts on the edge and folded to fit the side.(picture as below).

But this was not a smart way. I found it was much easier to just make the 2 round top and button first, then in between building one long cardboard.as I made the back shield(I call it shield).

2. I made other volume after, but don't like them.

3. This was the failed volume.Because I put a pillow to get shape, but it was very soft.(picture as below)

4.After comparing the volumes, I decide to use my first volume as the final volume.

5.When I tried to cover the volume with plastic, I found it was hard to make the back shield so I removed it.

6. When I try to use the heat gun to fuse the plastic, the corner areas and hidden areas are not so easy to fuse properly and it's very easy to break into small holes.

7.To trace the shape and mark them into different parts is not so easy, since my volume is not as regular shapes.so some small parts also i have to separate them.(however I realize I'd better make them as less details as I can from the beginning) 

8.I remove the plastic from the mannequin and try to make them as flat as I can, so it became so many small pieces.since they should not be overlapped to each other.

9. I tried to draw on the white paper of the plastic sheets. but at first I only left 1cm extra, which turn out not enough. so I redid it. also I found I wrongly named some plastic sheets because the right and left was the opposite on the mannequin.

10.I pinned the white paper on the mannequin.corrected the lines.some lines were ok, some I need to extended. some parts even not yet covered. I made 2 extended parts over the waist.and some small pieces I joined them together since it is better to have less parts to sew. 

11.I traced the revised white paper pattern on the tracing paper. these time I made as less patterns as possible.

12.I cut the tracing paper pattern and tried to find the suitable parts since I bleached the denim and it had different colors.

13. After over locked all the parts I sew them together.Ms Arusha told me the left back is kind of short.so I add one piece.I removed the cardboard and put the garment on the mannequin. This step was not easy, I have to sew the left shoulder first,then the top,last was the dress.Each time I had to put on the mannequin to understand how should I sew. Should I hide the overlock inside or leave it outside? Also to join the separate parts together was a challenge to me. My patterns were not perfect, some part I have to make several drapes to make the waist fit the top. (below pictures: left one is with the cardboard,right one i removed the cardboard.) 

14.I cut the overlock and frayed all outside hems.It took quite a long time to finish all the fringe.

15.Ms Fiona taught us to make a flower.so I did one and attached on the right side it hides the gather part.( the below right picture was the gather part)

16. I put the left shoulder volume together and hand stitched them into several layers.Then I open one side of the triangle, so the arm hole became a short sleeve.

17. I cut long pieces and make fringes on them. after I hand stitched the fringes on to the front left part. fringe is really a hard work and easy to get hurt.

18. below are the final garment.Maybe I will take back to put in washing machine to make the fringes better. ( I tried to paint some flower on the back, but I didn't like it. next time I will try only on a small piece of fabric before)
